Dal an Duie Field is open

A shared celebration for Glenbarr’s new community space.

Around 60 people came together to celebrate the official opening of Dal an Duie Field—a new outdoor community space for everyone to enjoy.

A community effort

The outdoor space began taking shape in early 2023 and was purchased for the community in January 2024. Since 2025, the GCDA Programme Manager has led its development with support from local volunteers. Further improvements are planned as the field, planting and surrounding areas continue to develop.

Thank you to the whole team

GCDA thanks landscape architect Matt Benians and Gordon Baillie Contracting for working alongside the community. Their skill, good humour and dedication helped create a high-quality space that belongs to Glenbarr and that residents can be proud of.

A special opening

The opening was led by Jeanne Macalister, Glenbarr’s oldest resident. Jeanne cut the ribbon and invited the children onto the field, followed by a community barbecue, refreshments and games for local families.

Community spirit

GCDA Chair Lorraine MacPhail thanked the many volunteers who prepared the field, Glenbarr Stores for providing food and drinks, residents who supplied baking and organised games, and Kenny Craig for capturing the day in photographs.

What happens next?

  • The woodland area remains closed for safety while tree works continue. In time, it will connect with the proposed woodland paths.
  • Please avoid parking on the grassed bays while they become properly established.
  • The play-area survey will help shape proposals for a potential new play area, and the results will be shared with the community.
  • The anticipated appointment of a Woodland Ranger could create further opportunities for learning, volunteering and caring for the woodland together.

Thank you to everyone who supported the project and joined the celebration. Dal an Duie is intended to become a safe, welcoming place where people of all ages can meet, enjoy nature and take part in community activities.
