Dal an Duie Car Park and Field

It’s been an exciting year for the Dal an Duie project. Thanks to everyone who joined our community engagement sessions, shared ideas online, or walked the site with us – your input has shaped the plans now moving into action.

Building on your ideas

At our community event last March, led by landscape architect Matt Beniens (MBLA Design Ltd) and the GCDA Woodland Working Group, local residents came together to imagine a future for Dal an Duie that blends accessibility, nature, and community spirit.

You told us you wanted…

Better access and safe paths so everyone can enjoy the site.

Native planting and biodiversity, keeping the natural feel of the field and woods.

Thoughtful parking solutions, especially for older visitors and those with mobility needs.

Spaces for gathering and quiet enjoyment, including picnic spots, a fire pit area, and ideas like a story trail or public art.

This clear, constructive feedback has guided every step of the design process.

From vision to delivery

Using this feedback, the landscape architect refined the plans, and planning permission for the Dal an Duie car park was granted in December 2025 – a real milestone for the project.

After a tender process, Gordon Baillie Contracting Ltd has been appointed to carry out the works. Following detailed value engineering with our consultants, the total project cost for Phases 1 and 2 has been confirmed at £219,516 excluding VAT, with £152,450 allocated for the car park and £67,066 for the works on the field. The full project will be delivered in three phases:

Phase 1 (April–May 2026)

Creation of the new rural car park with safer sightlines, 8 parking spaces plus 8 overflow spaces, bicycle stands, new access, hedging, and dry stone wall improvements.

Phase 2

Field enhancements including pathways, fire pit, meadow and native tree planting, and rebuilding the collapsed wall by the woodlands (Phase II is pending planning approval).

Phase 3

Woodland paths, seating, signage, and finishing touches that bring the whole project together.

Work on Phase 1 begins 13 April and will run for around six weeks. GCDA will share weekly progress updates so the community can follow along as the project takes shape.

Stay connected

The Dal an Duie project is being built on community ideas, and that collaboration continues. We’d love to keep hearing your thoughts on access, paths, planting, and how the site can best serve Glenbarr now and into the future.
